Michele Marieschi was one of the most inventive landscape and architectural painters of the Venetian eighteenth century. Celebrated for his cityscapes of Venice and his imaginative capricci, Marieschi blended real and fantastic architecture into poetic compositions rich in atmosphere and depth.

In Landscape with Figures, the artist constructs a dramatic setting where monumental ruins and distant villages frame everyday human life.

The contrast between light and shadow, reality and invention, transforms the scene into a theatrical vision—an echo of Venice’s grandeur and its fascination with illusion.

This painting is a rare example of Marieschi’s ability to merge architectural fantasy with natural landscape, making it a key work within The Masters Collection presented by AlexArt International.
